Dr. Ahmed grew up in Springfield, Virginia. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology from Old Dominion University, he earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA. He then completed his Internal Medicine Residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he was active on the Housestaff Council and received the Residency Teaching Award for excellence in teaching. Dr. Ahmed went on to complete his Gastroenterology Fellowship at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC where he served as Chief Fellow. After completion of fellowship in 2009, he practiced as a staff physician and solo Gastroenterologist in North Carolina. Dr. Ahmed is board certified in Gastroenterology, his clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, and colorectal cancer screening and surveillance. He is active in several national societies. Dr. Ahmed employs a thoughtful and caring approach, communicating with his patients from their perspective. As voted by his peers, he has been routinely recognized as a ‘Top Doctor’ in the Mid-Atlantic region in Northern Virginia Magazine and Washingtonian Magazine. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, cooking, and watching all Washington sports. He also loves spending time with his wife and 5 daughters.
